The first thing I thought of was an old victorian style of hair. Also, if you read more in the blog, you know I like to use masks on the people I paint. So this old masquerade type bird mask seemed to fit really nicely.
The hair ended up taking a good while to render out. It definately wasn't the most fun I've ever had.
After the hair was done, things started to get a lot more fun and they moved a lot quicker. I threw in some sticks and a little family of birds being fed at the top. I also started to work in the background and plan out what the girl would be wearing. I should note, that I'm an idiot for not doing the background first. I had to be careful not to paint over what was already finished and in some cases, re-paint what I ended up covering.
I got the dress in there, which made me feel a lot better, because the painting started to balance out a bit. The end was in sight.
And there she is, pretty much complete. I'm going to add a few more details before I hang it this weekend. If you get a chance, come see it in person at the Culver City Artwalk this Saturday, 12-8pm. The painting is pretty big and there is a lot more detail than you can see on here.

I have a new drawing up on sketch theatre. I was so excited to hear that a Mountain Goats song remixed by Aesop Rock would be accompanying it. I love both artists and I think the video came out really cool. Head to the website and check it out.
