Workin' for the man

Every once in a while, I have to take a break from gallery work and do the commercial thing...especially when I get a chance to work with an old friend. Check out Laurie Nickerson. She's an awesome designer. The idea was to paint a car that looked sad or grumpy because he got left at home(due to his owner taking public transportation). I sketched out a few ideas to show the client before I started painting. I liked the top left car the best. But I think it still turned out alright.

Yoka Bear

Here's a little preview of this toy I'm painting for Subtext. It's probably the most pain in the ass thing I have EVER worked on, But It's turning out pretty cool.

DK

Here's a little preview of my latest painting for the upcoming 8-bit show. It's my own spin on Mario conquering Donkey Kong.

You can't see too well in the photo, but I started out with a loose sketch and washed over it with burnt sienna. I have been using purple as a wash lately and the colors have come out really bright, which I like, but I thought I would expiriment and tone it down a notch for this one.

As to not make the same mistake I made in the last painting, I started with the background. I havn't worked on any landscapes lately, so I thought it would be cool to have the characters riding out of a thick jungle.

Painting Donkey Kong was a lot of fun. As I went along, I got better at painting the hair and it went a lot smoother and looked more natural. I should have took a picture before I started on Mario, but I forgot. Sorry.

After Mario and Donkey Kong were painted, I threw in the hat flying off Mario's head, just to add a little more reference...and of course, the spotted red mushrooms growing in the field. This painting was a lot of fun. Hope you like it.

Elle Girl (korea)

I'm sure most of you have already read this months issue of Elle Girl (Korea). But juuuuuuust in case you havn't, I'll give you a little peek inside.

I'm pretty sure it says nice things about me...

Blaine Fontana at Infectious

I've always been a big fan of Blaine's work so I was really happy to discover the website of this new company, Infectious. Not only do they have a cool product with a bunch of great artists, but also a little bit of love for my buddy tessar and I in Mr. Fontana's interview.

Thanks, Blaine. I really appreciate it.
